A New Beginning for Amanecer

Todd NelsonWelcome to the new Amanecer Community Counseling Services website. Amanecer means “a new beginning” and it truly is a new day for this agency that has provided critical mental health services, domestic violence counseling and adolescent behavioral services to neighbors in our community since 1975. Like our name asserts, however, this is just the first of many ambitious efforts—and you can help.

Join us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter to ensure you will be invited to special events like advance film screenings and art tours. Team up with Friends of Amanecer and volunteer your time and talent to lend a helping hand at special events. And click the Donate button and give any amount, either a one time tax-deductible gift or a recurring monthly donation.

No amount of financial help is too small, especially in light of proposed cuts to the California state budget—the steepest of which affect the most vulnerable in the state—including a $1.7 billion cut to Medi-Cal, the state’s health insurance program for poor families and disabled people; and a cut to CalWORKs grants (which provide modest cash assistance and job-related services for struggling low-income families with children) by 13.0 percent effective June 1, 2011.

Please join me in being a good neighbor and giving any amount of work, wisdom or wealth to help Amanecer Community Counseling Services come to the aid of disadvantaged children, women and men right here in our community. President Reagan said in his second inaugural address, “A growing economy and support from family and community offer our best chance for a society where compassion is a way of life.” I could not agree more and am doing my part to help. I hope you will, too.

Thank you,

Todd Nelson

President, Board of Directors
